Leanne Buckingham

Senior Travel Consultant

When did you start working in the travel industry?

I had a Saturday job In Thomas Cook when I was at school and have worked as ground staff at Heathrow Airport for Gulf Air and All Nippon Airlines, and also as cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic.  I was several years with Hays Travel before joining Fred. Olsen Travel Agents.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

The best thing about being a travel consultant is helping clients turn their dream holidays into reality while sharing expert advice and first-hand experiences to create unforgettable trips.

Where would you like to visit next?

I fancy a Greek Islands cruise.  I went to the Nana Princess hotel in Crete last year and really enjoyed it so I would like to see some more of Greece.

What is your dream holiday destination?

Japan is my dream destination because it beautifully blends ancient traditions with modern life, offering incredible culture, cuisine, and landscapes that I’ve always wanted to experience firsthand.

What has been your favourite holiday, which you have booked for a customer, that you would love to take yourself?

Last Word, Madikwe - This safari resort promises incredible, once-in-a-lifetime sightings right from the lodge and my clients had some amazing photos to prove it!  I have been to Cape Town and Johannesburg, but I would love to go to a private game reserve like this one.

What were your childhood holidays like?

Marbella - my family had a holiday home there when I was growing up.

What are the first three things in your case?

Sunglasses, sun cream and a bikini.

  1. Use a travel agent for advice and to save you time when booking.
  2. Pack smart and light – bring versatile clothing, essentials in your hand luggage, and always leave space for shopping. I often try to travel with hand luggage only.
  3. Keep digital copies of important documents (passport, itinerary)

Cruise
Tips

  1. Book excursions early – popular shore excursions often sell out quickly, so reserving in advance ensures you don’t miss the best experiences at each port.
  2. Pack a day bag for embarkation – your luggage may take a few hours to reach your cabin, so keep essentials like swimwear, medication, and documents with you.
  3. Take advantage of ship activities – from shows and restaurants to spa treatments and onboard events, exploring everything the ship offers makes the cruise experience even more memorable.  I always head to the spa when I embark as they usually have special offers that day.

My Favourite Memory

Marbella is my favourite holiday destination because it offers the perfect mix of beautiful beaches, luxury experiences, fantastic food, and a lively atmosphere. I love that you can relax during the day by the sea and then enjoy amazing restaurants and vibrant nightlife in the evening, making every trip feel special and memorable. I lived there in my 20s so it is like home from home for me and love to visit when I can.
