Travel Consultant

When did you start working in the travel industry?

I've worked in travel since January 2024 when I joined the Eastbourne branch as an apprentice.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I love listening to our clients' travel stories, the places they've been and experiences they've had worldwide - I learn so much and add a lot of different destinations to my own bucket list.

Where would you like to visit next?

Iceland has been on my list for a while now and I feel it's about time I check it off. I'm a big lover of astronomy and would aim to do some stargazing and northern lights tours while there.

What is your dream holiday destination?

Anywhere with an abundance of wildlife and birdlife. Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands, as well as Antarctica and the Falkland Islands have been my dream destinations for a while for the range of wildlife I'd be hoping to spot.

What has been your favourite holiday, which you have booked for a customer, that you would love to take yourself?

An extended tour of Japan, taking in the major tourist sites and travelling by bullet train, but also immersing myself in the culture more with Taiko drumming classes and of course hopefully seeing the snow monkeys and the Sika deer.

What were your childhood holidays like?

Our family holidays were always UK based, I have fond memories of time spent in Devon and the Isle of Wight.

What are the first three things in your case?

Something to read, a sketchbook, and my camera. These are my three essentials to keep me busy and allow me to take in my surroundings in my own way.

Tips

  1. Packing cubes - these have definitely got a lot more popular recently and are super helpful for keeping track of outfits.
  2. If on a cruise, make sure you know what plug sockets will be in your cabin.
  3. VISAs - make sure you know well ahead of time what will be needed to travel to your destination.

Cruise
Tips

  1. If given the option to, jump at the chance of doing a behind the scenes tour of the cruise ship - getting to see the Bridge and the areas usually off-limits that show the hard work that goes into the smooth running of a cruise ship is really special.
  2. Don't pass up on the specialty restaurants, there are some real hidden gems that can be missed if sticking to the  buffet or main dining room each night.
  3. Plan ahead for how you're getting to the port - if you can arrive a day early to take away any last minute panic, then even better.

My Favourite Memory

My favourite destination is Italy, it's such a diverse country north to south and you can travel there for so many reasons. Whether it's for the history in Pompeii and Rome, the food of the Amalfi Coast, the dramatic coastlines of Puglia, the art of Florence - I could go on! There's something for everyone in Italy and so many ways to explore it.
